At Manresa (basilica of Saint Mary, la Seu), before the central panel of the reredos of the Holy Spirit by Pere Serra (v. 1394) depicting Pentecost
Your Day has touched them.
They are just being born
and they stir with this
completely new life.
Into this flickering feast
of Your promise
They have entered.
Your light lingers
on them
like music at rest.
They have had wind of You
And here they are
reddening like
glowing coals.
In the darkest hours
it is the sign
of a Woman with child
that You use for Yourself
You, God who are also
Woman, infinitely (John 16).
All rests upon the consent
of a woman of patience
desiring
to deliver the life
she has received from You.
To be sheltered
in this watchful Dwelling!
Mary of the Word
and of the Spirit.
Flesh and the book tell of
the required migration and the regions at the ends of the world.
The open welcome of eyes, hands, bodies,
celebrates faith in this Absent Living Presence.
To those who have received You, You have granted birth,
To be born… this call or desire has been swayed by so many hearts
at the whim of their raging winds.
But, ultimately, the experience of believing is birth.
It is a marian experience.
Mary encapsulates in her person all the survivors of faith,
its explorers,
those who, rightly, are the remnant, and the beginning.
Men and women have been formed by You, the One Sent,
into burning bushes and passages intoxicated with Your Word.
So we shall be memory of You to the very end.
In deeds and words that are always begun
We shall graft our response to Your open Word.
