In her closing address to the General Chapter of our Congregation on 12 June 2022, Sister Véronique Fabre, the newly elected Superior General, said: « Allow me to risk sharing with you an intuition, which, little by little, was transformed into an intimate conviction which I have had for several days, and which stays with me:
to live in accordance with the melody of this Chapter will lead us naturally to further explore the dimension of pilgrimage
[…] To be born on the pilgrim route is neither a coincidence nor a simple historical fact. This place of our birth marks us forever, until it becomes an integral part of our spirituality, of who we are…we have not finished discovering its full depth. In our world where so many of our contemporaries wander aimlessly without finding the meaning of their existence, a walk of humble and audacious pilgrims can bear witness and attract others […] »
Pope Francis reinforced this intuition by placing the Jubilee of 2025 under the sign of hope, to help Christians rediscover their status and even their mission as “Pilgrims of Hope.”
This same intuition was offered to us, as Sisters of the Cenacle, English, Irish, Swiss, Italian, Togolese and French, as we entered the door of the Church of the Cenacle in Rome on 14 February 2024 as pilgrims of hope, signifying our communion with the Universal Church and our deep desire to commit ourselves ever more to serving God and our neighbour in today’s uncertain world. Walking through this door led us to the “holy ground” of our consecrated lives, our roots, our convictions and our doubts, our enthusiasms and our fears, in order to seek how to be on pilgrimage with authenticity and hope on our human roads.
Together, our trees of life make up a forest where it is good to take a walk...
Pray, reflect, read again, laugh and share...
To live at the heart of the world, of this world, where we are sent, doing everything we can to ensure that the heart of each and every one of us is attuned to the Heart of Christ, so that we can go through the ups and downs of life united to God. To ensure that our words, our actions and our way of being are in tune with the Gospel, so that the Kingdom of God can unfold here and now.
To live this way ourselves and to help others, many others, to live this way is our mission as Sisters of the Cenacle, a magnificent mission that makes us profoundly happy because it allows us to see the work of God in the hearts and daily lives of those who seek him.
We experienced all this with friends, our facilitator, the interpreters and technicians, with me, with us, with Jesus Christ… and our desire is to continue this pilgrimage with many others… and not without you!
