The Vogan community is very committed to the service of formation to religious life in West Africa, and the community calendar is full of animation sessions. Here are a few examples: an entire month of preparation for final vows, a week-long discernment retreat for male and female postulants, a recollection for minor seminarians, sessions on spiritual accompaniment and non-violent communication for one or other of the novitiates, etc.

The Union of Major Superiors of Women of Madagascar (USMFM) has a Training Centre to provide consecrated persons with training that corresponds to the needs of today’s people.
The Centre comprises 3 entities: ISPA (Institut Supérieur de Pédagogie d’Antananarivo), the Formation of Formators and a Juniorate.
Since last year, the Cenacle has been represented by Sister Marie Madeleine as coordinator of the formation of formators. Her role is to contact teachers in connection with the USMFM, and to draw up and implement the training programme during the academic year. The formation lasts one year. The number of participants varies from year to year… This year there were 22 participants from 12 congregations. They were priests and religious men and women.

Cenacle Educational and Spiritual Assistance Program (CESAP)
This ministry began with a Filipina domestic helper in Singapore approaching Sr. Angie (during her visit to the Singapore Cenacle as Regional Superior) to request if she could assist children in the Philippines with their educational needs. Her sister, whom she was helping with her studies, was finishing her course in Dentistry and would no longer need her financial help. In October, 2000, she gave money for this purpose. Ministry began December, 2000. For the School year 2000-2001, we had 3 sponsors and 3 beneficiaries.
Our first three sponsors, left to right: Virgie Sayson’s mother; Virgie Sayson – employer and friend of Julie Lopez; and Julie Lopez, who desired to help children in the Philippines!
We will be celebrating the silver jubilee of this ministry in 2025.
Today we have 34 children and youth: 12 in High School and 22 in Grade School. I put the limit at 35 +/- 1, because the Cenacle Retreat House can only accomodate 80 persons for our Christmas Party (CESAP beneficiaries + parents (one parent each) + staff is already more than 80). We give P6,000.00 monthly allowance to the High School students and P5,000.00 monthly allowance to the Grade School students plus extras on Birthdays, Graduations, Christmas and when there is need (e.g. during the pandemic!) We give monthly Catechism Classes to the Students and monthly Sunday Gospel Sharing (Bukluran) sessions to the parents. We have a Volunteer Staff: Volunteer Catechists, Bukluran Facilitators, and Area Coordinators. Collaborating in this ministry are Cenacle Sisters from Maryam and Sophia Communities, Auxiliaries of the Cenacle and lay women friends. The children and youth come from 5 financially deprived areas near the Cenacle – Daan Tubo, Marytown, Park 7, Project 2, and Rona’s Garden.
