Pope Francis will open the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on 24 December 2024 to mark the beginning of the Jubilee. It will end on 6 January 2026, the day of the Lord’s Epiphany.
A Holy Year or Jubilee is a privileged period that invites us to experience God’s goodness and to renew our faith.
“A year of blessings from the Lord”
Lk 4:16-21 and Is 61:2
During this year, we are encouraged to experience God’s mercy in the sacrament of penance to open our hearts more widely to the Lord and others.
We are also called to go on a pilgrimage to walk with our feet and with our hearts. By placing ourselves under God’s gaze, we must make an inner journey: asking the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts and discern what holds us back from being closer to God.

Pilgrims of hope. That is the theme of this jubilee. As the logo suggests, we look to the Cross, the sign of Hope (symbolised by the anchor). Our human journey takes place in the midst of the turbulent waters of our contemporary world and our own torments. But we do not walk alone, but as part of a dynamic community that embraces differences.
Pope's prayer intention for December
For pilgrims of hope. We pray that this Jubilee Year strengthen our faith, helping us to recognize the Risen Christ in our daily lives, and that it may transform us into pilgrims of Christian hope.
